Collecting / READING NOTE 06
Keep a small collection with a clear story
A shelf can be an edit, rather than an overflow.

Name the connection
Choose a thread: a design era, a vehicle shape, a particular scale, or something linked to a memory. A collection becomes easier to enjoy when you can explain why the pieces belong together without reading a list of purchase prices.
Make room before adding
Lay out the existing pieces with enough space to see their outlines. Decide which one deserves attention and which can be stored. Dusting, lighting, and a simple label often improve the display more than acquiring another object.
Write the provenance
Keep packaging details and a short note about how each item arrived. Avoid turning an asking price into an assumed value. The shelf’s purpose is personal enjoyment; a coherent group of ordinary objects can tell a much better story than an expensive mismatch.
